Janice, a Shirebrook resident, was diagnosed as pre-diabetic at the start of 2024, and her GP referred her to join the Healthier You programme to get the help and tools she needed to reverse her diagnosis. She came along to 13 group sessions run by one of our friendly experts, Emily, at The Arc Leisure Centre, and Janice brought so much positivity to the group, encouraging those around her while she worked on improving her own health.
When we asked her to share with others how the programme helped her, she told us that working out her WHY was key to unlocking positive change. “You need to use your WHY and desire to change your lifestyle”, said Janice. We help you to really dig down and get personal about why you want to change your life for the better so you can use these reasons – your WHY – to really motivate you to stick at it and succeed.
For Janice, following a health scare, she felt it was really important to become fitter and healthier to avoid becoming a burden on her family or the NHS. She also wanted to get moving more to boost her energy levels, and she wanted to worry less about her health and medication. With her WHYs worked out, she felt confident to start making positive changes.
With her goals set, Janice turned up to each session with a real willingness to learn, soaking up Emily’s engaging and informative sessions, and leaving feeling focused and motivated to take what she learnt into her everyday life. Keen to tell others thinking about joining the programme how the group helped her, she shares advice to “use the information and support provided.” You won’t be doing it alone!
We understand making changes isn’t easy, and ups and downs are a normal part of the journey. When Janice’s progress felt like it was plateauing, or when she felt she wasn’t moving in the direction she hoped, she spoke to us, and we helped her to reflect and reframe what was happening so she could come back even stronger.
